Grand Tour Days 28 – 31 – Budapest

Time flies when you’re having fun! I’ve been trying to find time to sit and write for days now, but it seems that often when I have time I do not have internet access. Tricky problem that one. While I have been busy my days were also sometimes approaching a bit relaxing. I’ve heard that relaxing is what vacations are for, but generally that doesn’t seem to be how I travel. Hmm… I may have to work on that.

Grand Tour Days 23 – 27 – From Munich to Budapest

It has been a very busy five days since last I had the opportunity to write. I’ve traveled by train, bus, boat, underground, taxi, funicular and a whole lot of using my own two feet. I haven’t had internet access to write during this time so this is going to be a bit of a big post, as such I’m going to try to keep each day a bit shorter (and ensure that I get to write more often from now on – I’ve already spent more than 6 hours just sorting through photos!!). So here we go – the journey from Munich to Budapest…

Grand Tour Days 20-22 – Munich

It has been a busy few days, though in a mellow and very enjoyable way. I have left France for now and have spent the last few days in Germany. The most amusing part of this is that I have been working very hard on my French for the last week but now I’m in a German speaking country. It is taking a few days for my brain to catch up. Some one will ask me a question in German, and I’ll reply in French. Lunch the first day was the worst, as it was compounded by my server being Italian. He spoke a blend of German and Italian, I answered in some messed up French-English-Italian-German jumble that really made no sense at all. Luckily smiling and pointing works alright a lot of the time!

Grand Tour Days 18 & 19 – Dieppe, Rouen & St Martin Du Vivier

French breakfasts. I think they may be my idea of perfection. Good strong coffee with crispy yet chewy bread, delicious butter, and maybe a croissant or a small croissant du chocolat. I’m sure not all French households have breakfast like this, but Thomas’s family does and it is really, really enjoyable. As far as I can tell whoever is up first pops out to get fresh bread from the nearby boulangerie. Yes, I think I may be in heaven. And I haven’t even gotten to French lunches yet…

Grand Tour Days 15-17 – Rouen and Normandy

I love France. I love France so much that I am finding it very hard to find time to sit and write. I have been managing to keep up with downloading and organising my photos but even that is a near thing (read: I haven’t done today’s yet). I think I had better start taking notes so that I don’t forget to write about something fantastic because it truly is wonderful here. Alright, let’s see how good my short-term memory is…

Grand Tour Day 13/14 – From London to Rouen

Quiet days are going to be the key I think. As I mentioned, Day 12 was pretty quiet but that worked out perfectly for the next two days. Monday was a whirlwind of activity leading into my travel to Rouen in Normandy, France. The travel led to a bit of a quieter day in Rouen but I’m hoping that means high energy for tomorrow. I’m labeling this post ‘Day 13/14′ as they rather blended together for me.

Grand Tour Days 11 & 12 – London

I think I’ve been trying to jam things in like I’m on a short trip – running here and running there. But on a trip of this length I think I had better slow down, at least some days… This is a learning experience in so may ways, especially in ways I hadn’t anticipated. I am looking forward to what tomorrow brings.

Grand Tour Day 10 – London

My morning started very early. Very, very early. Jessica had to leave by 6am, but another girl in the dorm had to leave by 5:30am. Normally this isn’t a problem, except that she set her alarm for 4:20am! I didn’t get much sleep after that. Ah well.

Grand Tour Days 7-9 – Southwest Cornwall and on to London

There is so much to do in Cornwall. It is really amazing! There are castles, mines, ancient villages, harbours, good food and so much more! Days 7 and 8 were devoted to exploring more of Cornwall, while today, Day 9 was mostly a travel day.

Grand Tour Days 4-6 – Visiting Cornwall

We started with pasties for breakfast. I had a steak and stilton pasty for my first true Cornish pasty and it made a super-wonderful breakfast! After pasties Dan drove us up to the north coast of Cornwall for a wide-ranging mission. We wanted to see puffins, Tintagel and some great folded rocks. We forgot to bring the map with us but somehow, we did get to all the places we meant to go!
